Pentosan Polysulfate
Pentosan polysulfate (PPS) is a heparin-like, semi-synthetic polysaccharide ester derived from beechwood hemicellulose. PPS is a mild anticoagulant, with anti-inflammatory, fibrinolytic and hypolipidemic properties. In human medicine, PPS is used in the treatment of interstitial cystitis, particularly in women. In veterinary medicine, PPS is used for the management and treatment of OA.

Guaifenesin
Guaifenesin is a centrally acting muscle relaxant that is used as a part of many anesthetic protocols in the horse. Its mechanism of action is not precisely known, but the relaxation of skeletal muscles, mild analgesic and mild sedative properties allow for lower doses of other sedatives and anesthetic agents.

Join us for the 9th Annual Hambletonian-Week Continuing Education Seminar!
Held in conjunction with the 83rd Annual Hambletonian Festival of Racing, this one-day event will be held on August 1, 2008, 8:30am to 5:00pm, at the Sheraton Meadowlands Hotel in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Participants can earn five or more credit hours during sessions such as Emerging Treatments for Musculoskeletal Disease, Functional Foods for Fighting Inflammation and Herpesvirus Infection in the Horse. A special buffet dinner and racing will follow immediately afterwards at the Meadowlands Race Track. Prefer a more "hands-on" learning approach? Wet Labs on practices ranging from dentistry to digital radiography will be held July 31, 2008. Time and place TBA.
