Mailbox: Added Months to Nunez's Life

Dear Staff @ Wedgewood Pharmacy:
I have a 20 year-old cat, "Nunez," with hyperthyroidism. He has been on methimazole for over a year, and would miss so many doses because he would run and hide when he saw me. (He was on the tablet form — very bitter to his taste.) His health was deteriorating because I could only manage to catch/dose him 1 or 2 times a week.
On the recommendation of my niece, whose cat (Fifi) was also hyperthryoid and whose vet ordered the fish-flavored compounded liquid-methimazole from you, I asked my vet for the same type of medication. My cat does not run and hide anymore; he can tolerate the flavoring/medication. He resumes purring immediately after being dosed.
Thank you for your product; you have probably added months to his life.
Sincerely,
Paula Scott

Cecilia, a 12-year-old spayed female domestic shorthair cat |
| Owner |
Walt |
| Symptoms |
Weight loss, increased appetite |
| Diagnosis |
Hyperthyroidism |
| Prognosis |
Very good with medication |
| Background |
Walt is a senior citizen with health problems that limit his ability to catch and medicate Cecilia twice daily. Dr. Albright and her husband visited Walt as often as possible to medicate the cat. But because the medication was not regular, her appetite increased as she continued to lose weight. A recheck showed that her T4 level was still extremely elevated. |
| Treatment |
One-half of a 5mg Tapazole® tablet twice daily initially. Dr. Albright switched the prescription to the fish-flavored Gourmeds™ chewable-tablet dosage-form. |
| Outcome |
Walt put out two treats and 1/2 a Gourmeds™ tablet twice daily. Cecilia ate them enthusiastically and in 30 days her weight, appetite and T4 levels returned to normal. Dr. Albright noted, "Without Gourmeds™, Cecilia wouldn't be able to be treated and would continue to suffer from hyperthyroidism." |
